What is AGI?
AGI is the idea of an AI as broad and flexible as a human; it does not exist yet and is mostly a thing of the future.
AGI stands for artificial general intelligence: an AI that can handle almost any thinking task a human can, not one trick but everything. Today's AI is far from that: it is good at narrow tasks, but lacks real understanding and common sense. Whether and when AGI will arrive, opinions differ sharply.
A lot of the hype is about AGI. For your day-to-day work, what matters is what today's limited AI can and cannot do, not the distant promise.
Put precisely
There is no agreed definition of AGI, and no yardstick to prove it is been reached. Companies also use the word in their marketing.
Common misconception
That today's AI is already almost AGI. That is an expectation, not a measurement.
