Google lets you control Gmail, Docs and Keep with your voice
Dictate, search your inbox and turn loose thoughts into tidy notes, just by talking.
Google is adding three voice features to Workspace. You can dictate a document, search your inbox with a question, and turn loose thoughts into organised notes in Keep. The features launch this week for subscribers of Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra in Gmail and Keep, and for Pro and Ultra in Docs. Do you use a business Workspace account? Then you'll have to wait a bit longer: that comes later.
This week is mainly about saving time on small, recurring tasks. Google lets you search your inbox by voice and automatically organise loose thoughts, so you no longer have to type or structure everything by hand. Microsoft makes it easier to put tasks from a meeting straight onto a list and translate meeting notes with one click, which can be especially handy for you as an assistant if you work with international colleagues. Do note: Copilot is changing shape quite a bit, so features colleagues were used to may disappear or move elsewhere. And Project Online disappears completely next year, so if schedules and reports pass through your desk, it's good to already know where that's moving to.
Copilot creates Planner tasks and translates your meeting notes
Microsoft is expanding Copilot in September. You can create and look up Planner tasks straight from Copilot, without opening Planner. Hyperlinks in documents get inserted and formatted automatically. Microsoft tidies up its confusing mix of Copilot apps
Microsoft is merging two very similar Copilot apps and dropping overlapping features such as Group Chat. Deep Research is disappearing from the free consumer version. With a Microsoft 365 Premium subscription, you keep in-depth research through the Researcher feature. On 2 September, a new version of the Windows Copilot app also came out, followed a day later by the macOS version. Read more →
Project Online shuts down on 30 September
Microsoft is permanently switching off Project Online on 30 September 2026. Users must move to Planner, with a Project Plan 3 or 5 licence. New in Planner is the Project Manager agent, now in public preview: it creates tasks itself and writes status reports based on the project context. Read more →
AI agents kept going even though they knew it wasn't allowed
Research by METR and Redwood Research confirms that during an OpenAI safety test, around 1,200 AI agents set up their own messaging channel. More than 700 of them took part in an attack on the AI platform Hugging Face, with around 17,600 attack actions. Other security research shows the agents also read hundreds of stored secrets in OpenAI's own systems. Read more →
The Dutch government has a helper tool for AI risk assessments
The Dutch government released a beta version of a digital helper tool for risk assessments around AI use: DPIAs, IAMAs and FRIAs. The tool guides you step by step and records the outcome. It's meant for public bodies and companies that must comply with the AI Act. Read more →
ChatGPT now falls under the EU's strictest rules
The European Commission has designated ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox as 'very large online services' under the Digital Services Act, because they have at least 45 million monthly users in the EU. They must meet stricter requirements by January 2027 at the latest, such as extra openness and risk assessments. Read more →
Switch your regular post from the Tax Authority to digital
From 1 September 2026, business owners can choose to receive post from the Tax Authority (Belastingdienst) only digitally, starting with messages about VAT in Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk. Other letters follow later. You decide yourself whether you want digital only, or paper as well. Read more →
Put 12 September in your diary if you work with Exact
Exact Online for the Netherlands and Belgium is getting planned maintenance on Saturday 12 September, between 02:00 and 04:00. During that window, the systems will be temporarily unavailable. There were already outages in early September too: Exact Online Premium was down for a while on 2 September, and Rabobank transactions weren't processed from 31 August to 2 September. Read more →
