What is Training?
Training is the phase where an AI model learns: it sees an enormous number of examples and adjusts itself a little at a time.
Before you can use an AI tool, the model has been trained. It sees millions of examples and keeps guessing the next bit, for instance the next word. If the guess is wrong, it adjusts itself. It repeats that countless times, until it gets good.
On its own, a model only knows what it saw during training. That is why it often knows nothing about recent events, or about your specific situation. Many tools top that up: they search the web, or read a file you attach.
Put precisely
Training takes a lot of time and computing power, and happens before you ever use the tool. What you add in a conversation does not change the model.
Common misconception
That you teach a model something new by correcting it. You are only steering that one conversation; tomorrow it starts again with the same knowledge.
