What is a prompt?

A prompt is the instruction or question you give an AI tool.

Everything you type to make an AI do something is a prompt. The clearer your instruction, the more useful the answer. Compare it to a client who vaguely wants 'something nice' versus a client with a proper brief. Give context, say what you want, and name an example of the style.

What this means for you

This is the single most important skill for making AI useful. A better prompt often gives a much better result straight away, without any technical work.

Put precisely

Besides what you type, the tool also sends its own hidden instructions along that you do not see. Your prompt is only one part of the instruction.

Common misconception

That a longer prompt works better. Clear and concrete works better than long.
