What is a prompt? Asking AI a good question

Sample lesson from the Office management Learning curve, "Asking a good question".

What is prompt?

Prompt: the instruction or question you give to an AI tool.

Read the glossary explanation →

A "prompt" is simply the instruction you give. The clearer your question, the more useful the answer. It works just like at work: a vague brief from a manager gives vague results, and a good brief gives you the right thing straight away. Give context (for whom, for what), say what you want, and give an example of the tone. Vague in, vague out.

Tip · try it yourself

Take a question you asked recently and add three things: who it is for, how long it may be, and an example of the tone that suits your office. Feel the difference in the answer.
