This week: e-invoicing becomes mandatory, your accounting assistant starts posting entries itself, and one GDPR mistake could cost you dearly.

The main story

The Netherlands is making e-invoicing via Peppol mandatory: start preparing now

From 2027, the first businesses will be required to use electronic invoicing. This affects both your systems and your day-to-day work.

An evaluation report from the Ministry of Finance makes clear that the Netherlands is choosing mandatory B2B e-invoicing via Peppol, introduced in phases between 2030 and 2032. But the first deadlines arrive sooner. Businesses with an annual turnover above 800,000 euros must invoice electronically via Peppol from 1 January 2027. Other businesses follow from 1 January 2028. Draft legislation is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.

What this means for you
Make sure now that your system can handle Peppol invoices and that you know where your financial data goes

From 1 January 2027, businesses with a turnover above 800,000 euros must already invoice electronically via Peppol. If you work with French customers or suppliers, this becomes relevant even sooner: large French businesses must send e-invoices from 1 September 2026. Check whether your accounting software can receive and send Peppol invoices. If you use AI tools for your administration, make sure your financial data stays within the EU and that the provider holds ISO 27001 certification. Packages such as Exact Online, Twinfield, and AFAS already meet this standard. And stay alert to phishing: AI-generated messages look increasingly convincing, including payment requests with changed account numbers.

Exact Bank Agent automatically matches payments to invoices and the general ledger

The Exact Bank Agent processes bank transactions automatically and uses AI to match payments to purchase and sales invoices and the correct general ledger account. Exact already processes more than 100 million transactions per month this way. You can set how much you automate and always keep control.
