This week is all about trust: a cheaper model for your API work, fake directors getting your invoices paid, and adverts that will soon appear in your free ChatGPT.

The main story

Fake boss calls for money: AI fraud is now so convincing you cannot tell the difference

Criminals use AI to copy a voice or face and trick you into making a payment. One fixed agreement within your business protects everything you have built.

In 2026, criminals are increasingly using AI to impersonate directors or finance staff. They create a fake video or clone a voice, so that an employee carries out a fraudulent payment. Around 40% of all phishing emails are now created or improved by AI. They are almost impossible to tell apart from real ones.

What this means for you
One fixed payment rule keeps fake instructions away from your account

AI fraud is becoming so convincing that even a familiar voice or face can be fake. Agree on one fixed rule with your team: any payment request received by email, chat, or phone must always be confirmed separately, through a different channel. That way, a fake video or cloned voice cannot reach your money. Also check whether your software connections use Zero Data Retention if you work with sensitive client data. And if you use AI in your communications or marketing, be open about it: the rules require it, and it also builds trust.

AI phishing: 40% of fake emails now come from AI

Around 40% of all phishing emails reaching your inbox are created or significantly improved by AI. The AI writes in the style of your client, drawing on old LinkedIn posts and earlier messages. This makes them almost impossible to distinguish from genuine emails.
