Copilot in Excel now shows where its answer comes from

With the July update, Excel now shows you straight away which data Copilot based its answer on.

Copilot in Excel got a handy update this summer. You now see the source right next to an answer: a small reference to the cells or data it is based on. So you no longer have to guess where a figure comes from. You can also link Copilot to Power BI for live data, and it now works in workbooks where auto-save is turned off.

What this means for you
Check a figure in Excel faster

Do you work in Excel a lot? Then this saves you time when checking. Ask Copilot for a total or a striking item, for example, and click through to the source it adds. You then see straight away which cells were used. Still check the big picture yourself on a row you know. A source does not automatically mean the sum is right.

Copilot now shows images right in the answer

Since the update at the end of July, Microsoft 365 Copilot shows relevant images from your files and meetings straight in the answer, not just as text. So you understand a tricky document faster without switching between apps. The feature works on Windows and on the web.
