Office management edition
Google now lets Gemini create and change documents, spreadsheets and presentations right in the conversation.
Gemini now creates and edits files in the chat
Google has expanded Gemini. In the conversation, you can now create documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets and code. You can also view and edit them there. So you no longer have to leave the chat.
If something is wrong, you don't start over. You open the file in full screen and change something yourself. Or you highlight a section and ask Gemini to rewrite it. You can also ask Gemini to answer a question or change an image.
The article gives an example: a student uploads photos of handwritten notes and has Gemini turn them into a PDF study guide.
Do you often make reports, presentations or spreadsheets? Then you let Gemini make a first version and improve it in the same conversation. You highlight a paragraph, ask for a rewrite and carry on. You don't need a new file for every change.
Google says the feature is available to all users, in languages and regions where the Gemini app is supported. You can read what works on your phone in the short item below.
Background for subscribersYou no longer need to download a file from Gemini to change it, because you edit it directly in the chat. You highlight a paragraph and ask for a rewrite, so you don't have to start over if something is not right. Docs, Sheets and presentations only work on the web for now; on mobile you can only edit PDFs.
Copilot Chat: limits only apply to colleagues without a license
From 9 November, Microsoft is introducing more fair-use limits for Copilot Chat. They only apply to users without a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. If your team has a mix of people with and without a paid license, this does not affect everyone. Admins cannot see or change the limits. Microsoft sets and manages them itself. No action is needed.
