Word, Excel and PowerPoint are coming to the Copilot app

Microsoft is bringing Word, Excel and PowerPoint to the Copilot app. There you can create, view, edit and work on files together with others, without leaving the app. Microsoft will start the rollout in mid-November 2026 and expects to finish it in the same month.

If you have Microsoft 365 Copilot through your work, you will see this in the Copilot app after that. Whether you get it depends on your employer's policy. That policy also decides whether Copilot may read and change the content of your Office files. If you don't know what is allowed for you, ask your administrator or the IT department.

Create a document without switching apps

If you have Microsoft 365 Copilot through your work, from mid-November 2026 you can create and edit files in the Copilot app itself. This gets you faster from an idea or a conversation to a document you can share, and your changes show up in the regular Office apps. Whether you get it depends on your employer's policy.

In brief

Copilot: projects keep an ongoing topic together

A Copilot project contains the chats, tasks, instructions and files that belong together. In Cowork, the part for bigger tasks, projects have existed since October. In November they also come to Copilot Chat. If you work on the same topic for weeks, you keep everything in one place. You then don't have to explain to Copilot every time what it is about. Whether and when you get projects depends on your organization.

Copilot Chat: limits only apply to colleagues without a license

From 9 November, Microsoft is introducing more fair-use limits for Copilot Chat. They only apply to users without a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. If your team has a mix of people with and without a paid license, this does not affect everyone. Admins cannot see or change the limits. Microsoft sets and manages them itself. No action is needed.

Gemini on your phone: you can only edit PDFs

Gemini now creates and edits files in the chat. But not everything works on every device. You can view and edit PDFs on mobile and on the web. Google Docs, Sheets, presentations, Markdown, TXT and code files only work on the web for now. Do you mainly work on your phone? Then a PDF is your only choice right now. For the other files, use the web version.

Anthropic warning appears in a stock market filing

Anthropic's warning about self-improving AI is not in a blog or an interview. It is in an amended S-1, the document a company files for a stock market listing. Skeptics point out that such a document can also be marketing. So if you read the message that AI may quickly become much more powerful, it is wise to pay attention to who says it and why. The fact that Claude improved a lot this year in programming, math and cybersecurity does make the concern less abstract.

With AI search, the bot chooses your sources

Chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini choose the sources for their answer themselves. If you want to decide yourself which sites you trust, Google is more convenient, according to Wired. If you doubt an answer, ask the bot where something comes from.

Android gets an extra mode against scams in chats

Google Messages on Android has a new security mode. It is meant to detect clever scams in chat conversations. You have to turn it on yourself. There will also be more warnings and better protection against forwarded calls and screen sharing. If you use an Android phone for work, for example for chats with customers or suppliers, turn the mode on yourself.

OpenAI explains when a chat conversation can reach the police

OpenAI announces new safety measures and a regular report. The company explains how it deals with signs of serious violence. Such signs can lead to action in ChatGPT. In some cases, OpenAI contacts law enforcement. To judge the approach, data on wrong assessments is also needed. Also new: Google lets you edit files directly in Gemini. You can edit PDFs on the web and on mobile. Presentations and spreadsheets can only be edited on the web.
