Students edition
Gemini now creates documents, PDFs, presentations and spreadsheets in the conversation itself, and lets you edit them there too.
Gemini now creates and edits files in the chat
Google has expanded Gemini. In the conversation, you can now create documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets and code. You can also view and edit them there. So you no longer have to leave the chat.
If something is wrong, you don't start over. You open the file in full screen and change something yourself. Or you highlight a section and ask Gemini to rewrite it. You can also ask Gemini to answer a question or change an image.
The article gives an example: a student uploads photos of handwritten notes and has Gemini turn them into a PDF study guide.
Do you often make reports, presentations or spreadsheets? Then you let Gemini make a first version and improve it in the same conversation. You highlight a paragraph, ask for a rewrite and carry on. You don't need a new file for every change.
Google says the feature is available to all users, in languages and regions where the Gemini app is supported. You can read what works on your phone in the short item below.
Background for subscribersYou no longer need to download a file from Gemini and open it somewhere else, because you view and edit it in the chat. If something in your report or presentation is not right, you highlight that part and ask Gemini to rewrite it, or you change it yourself in full screen. On mobile this only works for PDFs for now, so use the web version for Docs, Sheets and presentations.
A lesson on lightning or the Silk Road now starts with a tap
Gemini has a new feature: Immersive Explorations. A pupil picks a topic, for example lightning, a jet engine or the Silk Road, and opens it up step by step. Think of an assignment where pupils first explore on their own and then tell the class what they saw. You start via the Gemini Student Hub. The feature works on the web and on mobile. Note: Dutch is not supported, so the explanation appears in English.
