The Design edition
The AI news of that week, in plain language.
This week: your familiar design programs get smart AI help, and the rules around customer data get stricter.
Canva, Figma and Adobe: the AI is now built into your own tools
You do not have to learn a new tool. The big design programs now let you say what you want in plain language.
This summer, Canva, Figma and Adobe built AI deep into their programs. In Canva AI 2.0 you type what you want, and it makes visuals and text in the right house style. Figma's AI Design Agent makes a design straight in Figma from a plain-language description. And the Adobe Firefly AI Assistant drives Photoshop, Illustrator and Lightroom from a single text instruction, without switching between apps.
Background for subscribersYou do not have to add a subscription. Open Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator or Figma and look for a button marked 'AI', 'generate' or 'Firefly'. Try one small thing once on a practice file: a moodboard layout or removing a distracting element. Are you going to hand an image to a paying client for real? Then make it in Adobe Firefly, because that is the safest option for copyright in business work.
Canva AI 2.0: you say what you want, Canva makes it
Canva AI 2.0 now works like a conversation: you type what you need, and Canva makes visuals, text and formats in the right house style. Through connectors it links to Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, Notion and HubSpot. Your role shifts from doing it yourself to giving direction.
