New AI law starts to bite: keep track of which AI you use

From 2 August 2026, organisations must show which AI they use and for what.

The European AI law (the EU AI Act) enters a new phase. From 2 August 2026, the Dutch regulators (the Dutch Data Protection Authority and the RDI) will enforce two things. One: organisations must keep track of which AI systems they use and for what purpose. Two: if you use a chatbot, you must make clear that it is AI. The stricter rules for "high-risk" AI, such as software that filters job applicants, have been postponed to 2 December 2027.

What this means for you
Make a short list of the AI your teams use

Start small: write down which AI tools your teams use and for what. Think of a writing aid in the care file or a summary aid in your email. Note whether client data ever goes into it. That overview is exactly what the law asks for, and it also helps you see where the risks are. Do you use a chatbot for family or staff? Then make clear that they are talking to AI, not to a person.

Copilot in Word and Excel gets the latest AI, plus a handy check button

From 9 July 2026, the latest AI from OpenAI (GPT-5.6) is built into Microsoft Copilot by default, in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the chat. Handy for you: a new feature called 'deep citations' lets you check a result by linking straight to the source file. That way you see at once where a sentence comes from.
