This week: free top models, smart study tools, and an AI that makes up facts. Here is what is really useful for your studies.

The main story

NotebookLM is now called Gemini Notebook and finds your sources for you

Google's best study tool gets a new name and handy extras.

Google has renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. The tool stays the same, and your old notebooks keep working. What is new is the 'Discover sources' feature: the AI finds sources itself based on your research question, from the web or from your Google Drive. You look at the sources it finds and add them with one click. After that, the tool only answers based on those sources, so it makes up much less.

What this means for you
Load your own material and check every page

Load the reader or notes for one subject into a notebook. Ask it three exam questions and, for each answer, check the page it points to. That way you know for sure it comes from your own material and is not made up. A summary stays a framework, not a replacement for the book: you only really remember what you work through yourself.

Het programma dat de AI laat werken: een model

ChatGPT: newest model GPT-5.6 now free too

OpenAI has shaken up its prices. The cheaper Go plan went from 6 to 8 dollars a month. More important for you: the newest top model GPT-5.6 is now available in all plans, including the free one.
