AI photos, new fraud, and stricter rules: this week is about staying honest while the tools keep getting smarter.
New rules for AI are coming: soon you must state when an image is made by AI
The EU AI Act comes into force on 2 August 2026, with transparency rules that also affect your AI photos.
On 2 August 2026, the main rules of the EU AI Act start. From then on, you must make it clear when people are talking to an AI system. For watermarks on AI-generated images, there is a transition period until 2 December 2026. The strictest rules for high-risk AI have been pushed back to late 2027. Fines for banned practices can reach up to 35 million euros or 7 percent of global annual turnover.
Background for subscribersGo through your property listings for photos you have touched up with AI or furnished virtually. Add a visible note that it is an AI impression, and check that the actual state of the home (walls, windows, upkeep) has not been made to look better than it really is. This way, you are ready for the new rules and you avoid a complaint about misleading photos.
