Asana and ClickUp now write your status report themselves, but you stay in charge of the truth
The AI in your project tool makes a progress report on its own. But it only looks at what is in there, not at what is really going on.
Asana has a feature that automatically drafts a status update from the recent activity in your project. Users say the draft is already about 80% done. ClickUp went a step further: external AI such as Claude or GPT can now query your workspace directly. You ask in plain language "which tasks are blocked at the design team?" and get an answer based on real project data. That saves you a lot of copy-and-paste work. But note: the AI does not judge reality, it summarises what is in there.
Background for subscribersAn automatic report is only as honest as the data underneath. If your tasks are too optimistic or not updated, the overview shines cheerfully green while the project is stuck. That is called watermelon reporting: green on the outside, red on the inside. Make a deal with yourself: before you send an AI status report, first ask whether the underlying tasks are correct. A green report on old numbers lies, without the AI noticing.
