The AI news of that week, in plain language.
This week: AI that helps write during the consultation, speech in the patient record, and a new recording feature that is quietly switched on.
AI that listens in during the consultation saves care staff hours of typing each day
Tools like DAX Copilot, Abridge and Nabla create a report automatically; the care worker reads it back and signs off.
There are AI tools that listen in during a consultation and turn it straight into a report in the patient record. The care worker checks it and approves it. According to research by KPMG Health, this saves 40 to 60 percent of the admin time per consultation. At a GP practice with 25 consultations a day, that is 2 to 3 hours a day. These tools fall under the EU AI Act as supporting AI: patients must know that they are being used.
Background for subscribersFor you as an organiser, this is the interesting news: reporting is the biggest admin task. If a tool takes over part of that, your team keeps time for the real work. Two things to arrange before you start: tell patients that the AI is listening, and agree that every report is read back by a person. The time saved is real; care and accuracy come first.
Seven hospitals let AI put the consultation into the record
Six of the seven hospitals in the project 'Transcription in the Consulting Room' are live with speech AI that turns consultations into a structured report in the EHR automatically. The report is often there within seconds, at most within two minutes. Clear time savings have also been measured for nursing conversations.
