The EU transparency rules are on their way, fraud with fake voices is rising, and there's a mountain of new AI in the tools you already use. Here's what really matters for your profession.

A faked face: a deepfake

From 2 August: chatbots and deepfakes must be labelled

The EU AI Act's transparency rules are coming into force, and almost every company that uses AI is covered.

On 2 August 2026, the transparency duties in Article 50 of the EU AI Act take effect. Chatbots will then have to make clear that they are AI. And AI-made content, including deepfakes, must be labelled as such. According to the source, almost every Dutch company that uses ChatGPT, Copilot or similar tools counts as a 'deployer' under the law. Fines can reach 35 million euros or 7% of global annual turnover.

What this means for you
This week, list which AI your organisation uses

Are you a company lawyer? Then this is your file. Map out where in your organisation a chatbot talks to customers, and where AI creates images, text or video that goes public. Those are the spots that will need a label or notice from 2 August. For lawyers and smaller firms, the same applies if you use such tools yourself towards clients or the public. Note: this is explanation to help you keep up, not legal advice for your specific situation, and it doesn't carry training credits.

A tilted scale: bias in AI

AI in recruitment and selection: high-risk under the AI Act

Annex III of the EU AI Act marks AI for recruitment and selection as high-risk. That covers everything from filtering applications to AI that influences promotion, dismissal or performance reviews. The enforcement deadline is 2 August 2026. Employers must ensure human oversight, check algorithms for bias, and inform employees in advance.
