Finance edition
This week: new AI in your familiar Office suite, stricter rules from Europe, and fraud that looks completely real. Plus the basic lesson: what actually is AI?
Copilot in Microsoft 365 now works with your Power BI figures too
From now on, you can ask Copilot about company figures in plain language, without building anything yourself.
Through a feature called Work IQ, Microsoft 365 Copilot can now give answers based on your Power BI reports. You just ask a question in normal language, for example why a figure looks off, and you don't need to build a complex query. This makes company figures accessible to colleagues who aren't number people too. The feature rolled out in June 2026 within the Frontier programme.
Background for subscribersSoon you'll be able to have a Power BI report explained in plain language, for example why costs rose or where profit came from. That saves time on every report to a board that doesn't want to dig through figures. But AI can state a wrong number just as confidently as a right one. Verify every amount or check it against the source before it goes into your report. The explanation almost writes itself, the accuracy is still your signature.
Copilot now points to the exact passage in a file
Microsoft rolled out 'deep citations' in Copilot in June 2026. Instead of pointing to a whole file, Copilot now links directly to the precise passage in a Word or PowerPoint document that an answer is based on. Meetings, web pages and PDFs will follow soon.
