Healthcare edition
This week: new AI rules are approaching fast, smarter help in your email programme, and why you now need to be extra alert to fake invoices.
The big AI law starts real enforcement on 2 August, healthcare included
From 2 August 2026, regulators will check whether organisations follow the EU AI Act, with heavy fines.
On 2 August 2026, the main rules of the EU AI Act take effect. Regulators will then start checking actively. AI used for admission, assessment and monitoring in healthcare counts as "high risk". Strict rules apply there, such as a risk assessment, human oversight and documentation. Fines can reach 35 million euros or 7 percent of global annual turnover. Healthcare organisations using high-risk AI must register it in a European database by 2 August.
Background for subscribersYou don't need to know every article of the law. But it helps to know which AI is used in your teams, especially if it judges anything about people. List which tools you use and match that against your organisation's question: does this count as "high risk"? That way, you're prepared before 2 August and not playing catch-up. The decision remains human work; the tool is there to organise and write, not to decide about someone's care.
The Netherlands is arranging who will supervise AI
State Secretary Aerdts put out a bill for consultation that sets out which Dutch regulators (such as the AP and ACM) will check whether organisations follow the EU AI Act. The consultation ran until 1 June 2026. The government wants a solid supervisory system that leaves room for innovation, but also sets clear rules.
