Microsoft 365 edition
Copilot gets a handful of handy new features this week, and prices are going up at the same time. Time for a quick catch-up.
Copilot Cowork now finishes whole tasks, and that will cost money per task
You describe a task, and Cowork delivers a finished result. But the bill runs along with it.
Microsoft has switched on Copilot Cowork worldwide. You describe a task in plain language, and Cowork plans it, carries it out, and delivers a finished product, not a rough draft. What's new is how you pay: you pay per use with "Copilot Credits", at about 1 cent per credit. The free trial period ended on 1 July 2026. Admins can still set a budget cap.
Background for subscribersCowork charges per use, which is different from the regular Copilot in your subscription. Before you throw big tasks at Cowork, it's worth asking your IT colleague whether this is switched on for you and what budget there is. That way you're sure you won't pay for something your employer has already arranged, and you avoid an unexpected bill.
Copilot now points to the exact sentence in your file
Microsoft rolled out 'deep citations' in Copilot. Instead of pointing to a whole file, Copilot now links straight to the precise passage in a Word or PowerPoint document that its answer is based on. Meetings, webpages, and PDFs will follow soon.
